Hey Lupe, wanna play Mall?
“Hip-Spanic, Las Vegas, will debut Lateenaz, a line of fashion dolls and play sets designed to embrace Hispanic culture and traditions. Each playset (Salon, Mall, School, Quinceanera) opens up to different play scenes and comes packed with themed accessories, mix-and-match outfits and a “Lateenaz” logo patch. The dolls have realistic body shapes, facial characteristics and hair. Free gear is also available to girls who log into the website with good report cards.” OK, I can embrace school and quinceanera, and ok, kudos for encouraging good grades, but salon and mall as the only other options? Realistic body types and hair? More here with information on Hispanic heritage dolls like Baby Abuelita and some trends and stats. (photos from Toy Directory Monthly added April 17, 08)

Please tell me there are other options.
A library? A playground? A congressional office?
Hell, I’d even be happy with a Dream House.
I don’t even want to know.

Oh no. I wonder what kind of self-image issues this is going to conjure up. I can tell you that Barbies and Bratz have done more than their share of totally giving pre-teens an unrealistic image of what being a teenager is all about.
I had Barbies when I was a kid…so it isn’t like I’m against them, but sheesh…
Anyway…this ought to be interesting.
I read too fast and it filtered in as “realistic body and facial hair”. . .
LOL!
This SCREAMS gag gift. =D
I had the pleasure of seeing the dolls, and they do emulate the bodies of most hispanic girls. Instead of belittling and trivializing the Salon and Mall playsets, you should appreciate the play value and incentives this product offers. I suppose a Barbie wearing a STEREO-TYPICAL Red, White, and Green dress constitutes enough ethnicity for you. It is people like you, who can’t even manage to support their own people, that “HOLD THEIR PEOPLE BACK!” For the record, the dolls are NOTHING like Bratz or Barbie! Do you really believe that Tweens want to play with a PLUSH ABUELITA doll, that sings songs that THIS generation probably doesn’t even know, and has little play value? I don’t think so! Sounds to me, like you are all out of touch with your own kind. Try doing some research.
What’s the deal with the T-Shirts? People ACTUALLY PAY for them, or do you give them away? I received one as a gift, and I had NO IDEA what a little chick saying UPA! UPA! meant! You are robbing people with these shirts. Thanks.
Ouch, Anon…Not a good way to start the morning. I look forward to seeing Lateenaz and possibly changing my mind and writing a glowing and wonderful post and recommending and buying Lateenaz to all my friends and familia.
