Parenting.com: Marveling at a sleeping Maria
Today over at Parenting.com, what Maria does in the moments before she goes to sleep:
“Two nights ago, I found her asleep on the landing outside her room. She had made a perfect pack for herself — pillow, blanket, snuggly. Other nights, I have found her on the floor of her room, right next to her night light and with an odd assortment of trinkets lined up beside her — a ceramic cat, hair bows, a Dr. Seuss book or a stuffed bear, her chiming baby hair brush, a notebook. It always looks like an altar.”
Comment over there, please. Help me stop talking to myself.
Gracias!

Hi- I was surfing off parenting the hoovers blog roll. Your clothes are really cute!
Thank you, Essie…your blog looks fun! And, I know Mrs. Hoover well…we used to be neighbors…She’s a riot.
My daughter is constantly dragging around an odd assortment of trinkets. If she happens to leave the house without something (and sometimes even when she does) she’ll pick up a stick or a rock, or both. You described her changing collection perfectly…like an altar offering, as all of the objects have some special meaning for her. All of a sudden she doesn’t seem like a funny little bag lady, more like a spiritual soul.
Oh, I also have to tell you that for ages one of her trinket collections was held in one of your t-shirt eggs, she called them her “tasty treats.” “Mommy where are my tasty treats?” “Lets look at my tasty treats!” It lasted for months!
sorry I meant to comment on parenting, next time!

Julie, thank you for the information about your girl and the egg box! I love that. Also, the way they set up the altars, you do kind of wonder what the heck they know that we don’t. Old souls, indeed.
