My grandmother (along with every other Cuban in Miami in the 40+ demographic) has gone into frenzy over this! Personally, I agree with you. I really do hope that he sends the message loud and clear. I've always enjoyed his music and his going to Cuba will definitely be a good thing.

The only thing that bothers me about the Juanes concert is that he has access to something that no Cuban in or out of the island has; a microphone. Juanes is nothing but a pawn in a political game, he is being used the same way that other foreign music and movie stars have been used for 50 years. The image of an international superstar playing before the masses lends a sense of legitimacy to the government and an aura of freedom of speech.
As far as Fidel’s b-day, this morning I put on a black shirt, but tonight I’m changing it for a colorful one. The way I figure it, we should celebrate, “uno mas, es uno menos”.

Please, after 50 years you think a singer is going to make the Cuban people better, wake up the 40 minus demographic, the only way he is allow to sing is because he loves the robolucion, otherwise,no can do, ask Willie, Gloria and so many new arrivals if they can go and sing.
    Wake up, people.

I am so not surprised the exiles are p.o. ed. It's a great opportunity for the people of Cuba. I don't believe Juanes is in anyone's pocket. He wants to put on a concert, so let him! Are all the exiles going to gather on calle ocho and burn all his cds now?

Some of the people interviewed said they don’t even want to think about the possibility of the concert being canceled and said they are tired of everything related to Cuba being discussed in terms of politics.

“We’re not going to a May Day rally at the Plaza de la Revolucion. We’re going to hear Juanes and the other artists he’s invited,” said Odelsis, a 24-year-old student.

"I can’t stand how those who left put the political tag on everything and try to sabotage the lives of those who stayed,” she said.

    Interesting, isn't it?
What is the right thing? Lots of answers, opinions one one side, the other and the middle. (I'm still sticking with Yoani Sanchez on this one…)

OK, as far as the comments go on this divisive topic, I reserve the right to delete them if they get ugly or hateful, so if more ocmments are made, be aware of that. Don't make me sacar la big chancleta. Gracias.

That is because Odelsys is only 24 years old, what does she know about the suffering of the past 50 years, all she wants is pachanga, the heck with freedom.
