Boonie Blog: Miami Edition
It is very loud here, I said yesterday afternoon when there was a house full of relatives at my mom’s for Father’s Day.
My step-sister, arrived just two weeks ago from Havana, laughed.
It’s quite here she says. And then she told me about the roosters crowing, the pigs grunting, the neighbor women yelling, the neighbor man who would sing his way down the apartment stairs at 6 a.m. each day.
The noise there was deafening, she said.
Here she can sleep in peace.
And live in peace.
We are in Miami, hanging out. Dripping in sweat and in paperwork. My family hasn’t stopped filling out forms since they got here. Little price to pay for freedom.
Maria is sleeping in between the two snoring viejos and I’m collecting stories from the newbies. These poor people re-used disposable diapers. They’re surely going to survive in America.
Not too sure how much time I will have at my family’s completely ergonomically horrific computers, so I’ve set up my Miami Diary on Twitter @LosPollitos and I’m trying to do my best to update Tiki Tiki’s el diario each morning as I sip my cafe. Vamos a ver.
Happy Miami Monday.

Hey Carrie,
I was just there these last two weeks!! It was beautiful! That is wonderful that your family is here finally!! If you get a chance, take the family to Hollywood beach at the boardwalk (Johnson Street is the best place to park) There has been a mile out sandbar, for the last month, that is just amazing and the water is crystal clear as if you were in the Bahamas!! Enjoy those pastelitos!! I know I got my fill!! I'm back now in the pleasant heat of Tennessee! ;(
Carrie, tell me about those re-used disposable diapers back in the island; you wouldn't believe the horror stories, I could certainly write a book.
Over here, my poor Mom still struggles the urge to wash and dry disposable (plastic) cups, plates and forks… in Cuba they would reuse them until they broke.
I'm glad you are having a good time with your familia. It is amazing how easy we truly do have it here versus others in other countries. I am very grateful for that.
