Announcing the Tiki Tiki: A new Latina blog
Good, happy Monday all.
Today marks the launch of the Tiki Tiki blog — a group blog by four Latinas and yes, I am one of them.
Tiki Tiki is a magazine-style website aiming to capture the “cultura, color and sabor” of living Latino in the United States through essays, iconic photos and short videos, plus so much more.
The Tiki Tiki is why I haven’t been around here as much as usual. My energy has been spent working with Marta, Violeta and Carla to create Tiki Tiki and we’ve done that with our readers in mind every step of the way.
We believe we have made a fun and unique rinconcito on the Web for Latinos of every flavor. And while we’ll likely attract more female than male readers, and thus we call ourselves a Latina blog, we truly believe the guys will enjoy the Tiki Tiki. If anything, they may learn to understand us better!
On the Tiki Tiki you’ll get essays, recipes, contests, giveaways, photos, videos and a special feature we call “del alma,” which is your daily dose of inspiration. More on the About page.
In addition, we will rely on weekly guest columnists to share their essays, tips, recipes and more with us.
The point is you will see yourself reflected on Tiki Tiki. It is yours as much as it is ours.
OK so why did we name it Tiki Tiki? Allow me to explain:
In Spanish — particularly Cuban Spanish — Tiki Tiki is a funny saying meaning constant conversation, constant habla habla, the kind of noise that would make non-Latinos a little crazy. It is talking fast, hands in constant motion about 17 subjects and somebodies all at once.
We adopted Tiki Tiki as our name because we plan on doing a lot of talking here, a lot of back and forth, about a lot of subjects and definitely all at once.
And also because it is the sound of a Spanish heartbeat – tiki-tiki-tiki-tak tiki-tiki-tiki-tak.
And finally, to lure you over there, we’re hosting a Latino Book Month giveaway of five wonderful books. Please head over there and leave a comment about the site on the contest post to be eligible to win.
A special Gracias to the talented Mary of Okiana Designs for the Web work and her “ancient Peruvian secrets.”
OK, so what do you think?

Carrie,
I wish you, Marta, Violeta & Carla much fun and success with Tiki Tiki rinconcito!
I wish you well :) Melek

Makes me wish I had some Latina roots. Good luck with this great new venture!
