I am Weak

The husband and I have been eating mostly vegetarian for several weeks now. The husband has even given up dairy. I do not believe life is worth living without goat cheese, manchego and ice cold milk.
We have felt good and we’ve lost a few pounds.
Enter, Papi from Miami…with a gigantic box filled with pastelitos de guayaba, guayaba y queso and just plain queso.
I looked at my husband: “Are you going to eat one?”
No, he nods.
“Good, more for me.”
You want to know what I had for lunch yesterday?
Cuban bread — AKA baked lard — with olive oil and garlic.
That’s it.
I can run from my Cuban DNA, but I cannot hide.
At least I followed it up with Detox Tea.
I am a little modern, after all.
Hey, so in blog news…I spoke at the Blissdom Conference last week. The topic: Connecting with Media during the Social Media 101 workshop. I am turning the talk into a presentation and I’ll post it online in the next day or two…I can’t today. Too busy finishing the pastelitos.)
You can see some of the tweets from the session here.

You’re killing me with that picture. I am so jealous you got to eat those. O guava paste, guava paste, wherefore art thou, guava paste?
JA! JA! JA!…………

Thanks for sharing. An entire generation understands your pain, “que remedio nos queda” we gotta laugh!
Carrie, don’t feel bad! I have been mostly vegetarian for years but once I arrive home to Miami, it’s straight to La Rosa Bakery for me. Guava is a fruit, isn’t it???!!!
Dairy?! I love dairy, but I am lactose intolerant. Can you believe that? So either I pop a pill (to help me digest the dairy) before I eat some yummy quezo fresco or drink a nice warm mug of chocolate abuelita…or I have to just eat veggie cheese/dairy products. Thank goodness for the options, but as time passes I am leaning more and more towards the veggie cheese. And the pastelitos? who can resist! I would do the same. lol
Carrie, that photo is making me hungry. We talked about our efforts to eat better, but those look too good to pass! You know I would have eaten at least one of each if I had been at your house when Papi opened up the box.
